Steve nods and looks at his reflection for a moment. "I'm ready for this."

He smiles and gives Steve's hand a squeeze. "All right, then."

The P.A. returns and beams at Orpheus. "Ready, Mr. Orpheus?"

Steve gives him an encouraging smile.

"As I'll ever be," he says, giving her another smile. "And it's just Orpheus. No Mister."

"All right. Orpheus. This way, please."

"See you in a few minutes," Steve calls after them.

Orpheus pauses on his way out to give Steve a brief kiss on his temple, careful of his makeup. "Love you, Galahad," he murmurs before turning to follow the P.A. out.

"Love you, music man," Steve says, watching him go.

He takes a deep breath a few times and closes his eyes, and then stands up to pace around the room while he waits for the P.A. to return.

Orpheus gets settled into his seat with a minimum of fuss, brushing off the P.A.'s offers to fetch anything for him. "Just take good care of him, okay?" he says when he finally convinces her to return.

"I will, Mr. -- Orpheus." She blushes and rushes off.

There's a comedian to warm up the audience, and then the band plays the opening theme. There's a lot of dancing and joking back and forth as the host gets into place.

Steve watches on the closed circuit TV in the green room, chuckling sometimes, hoping for a glimpse of Orpheus before he has to go out himself.

Orpheus tries to be a good audience member and laugh at the appropriate times, but a lot of the humor has to do with popular culture or current events, most of which he's unfamiliar with. He finds himself fidgeting in his chair as he waits for Steve to come on.

Finally the host says, "My first guest is well-known to many of you as a symbol of hope in times of uncertainty--because nobody knows the next time aliens are going to come out of the sky and form a fan club for Tony Stark."

She pauses for laughter. There is laughter.

"He's tall, he's big, he's blond, he's cute as a puppy -- please welcome Captain America!" She leads the applause, and Steve comes out to the stage, waving bashfully and blushing a little.

Orpheus sits up a little straighter as Steve comes out, beaming at him, though he's fairly certain he can't be seen through the lights.

Steve sits with the host and waves to the audience, though Orpheus is right--he can't really see them.

There's a few minutes of discussion about the latest Avengers mission--that is public knowledge--where Steve confirms he ran over 700 miles because their communication was down during the freakish bad weather. The host leads the applause again. Steve smiles and says, "Doing what needed to be done, that's all."

Then the host says, "I understand you have somebody waiting for you at home after theses adventures now, Captain."

"Yes," Steve says, looking out into the audience again. "I do."

Orpheus' smile is fond and supportive, whether Steve can see him or not.

"It's the Black Widow, right? Tell me I'm right, Cap, I've got five bucks riding on it."

Steve laughs. "No, no. The Black Widow is like my sister."

He's quiet a moment, gathering his words. "I wanted to do this on your show specifically, Ellen, because I hoped you'd be the most understanding."

"Oh boy, oh boy!" The host bounces in her chair.

"I... have a boyfriend. Captain America is gay."

Orpheus finds himself applauding along with the rest of the audience, though he's fairly bemused by the reaction.

Steve is a little bemused himself. It's better than repulsion, anyway.

"Yes," he says when the applause dies down. "He's a musician, he's from Greece, and he's here."

"Camera on the boyfriend!" orders the host, and a camera swings around to the audience.

Orpheus smiles indulgently for the camera, giving a little wave, but his eyes stay on Steve the entire time.

"Oh, you two are so cute I could just die!" gushes the host, and Steve laughs. "What do your teammates think of him?"

"I... guess I'll find out the next time we have a team meeting," Steve admits.

Orpheus laughs at that. He's often wondered what Steve's teammates will think of him."

"You've done a pretty thorough job of keeping this quiet," says the host. "Why are you going public now?"

"I think it's important that gay kids in this country know I understand what they're going through and that I'm on their side."

He pauses and smiles in Orpheus's general direction.

"And I'm just really crazy about my music man."

Orpheus gives a smile that is all for Steve, though the cameras capture it anyway, sweet and fond and happy.

"And is he a superhero too? The Music Man, flying by his power chords?"

"Only to me," Steve says quietly.

Orpheus chuckles, biting his lip as he watches Steve field questions about them.

"Well, wow, you guys are just adorable, and I can see why you want to show him off. Thank you so much for coming on the show. Captain America, everybody!"

There's applause, and the host says, "After the break, a squirrel that ride a skateboard!"

Steve looks to Orpheus again, smiling.
