OOM: Orpheus, NYC

Now that Steve has a more solid vision of the place he'll build with Orpheus, the utilitarian apartment feels even less like home. He gives the plain walls an impatient look as he and Orpheus walk through to the bedroom.

"I'm itching to get started with renovating," he complains, "and we haven't even found the right location yet."

"For thhe better?" Steve whispers, his eyes closed.

"I like to think so," Orpheus says softly.

Steve kisses his neck and whispers, "So do I," as he slides off Orpheus.

"Good," Orpheus murmurs, shifting onto his side to smile at Steve.

Steve strokes Orpheus's cheek. "There's so much I want to do with you," he says quiety. "I just hope we get the chance."

Orpheus strokes a hand down Steve's side, letting it come to rest on his hip. "Tell me?"

Steve moves closer and lays a leg over Orpheus's thigh. "I want to build you a house," he says quietly, "and then make you a home. I want to stand up in front of everyone we know and promise to love you until the day I die. I want to make a family with you. I want to come home to you every day and go to sleep beside you every night.

"It's nothing I haven't said to you before, honey."

Orpheus reaches up to card his fingers through Steve's hair. "Sometimes I like to hear it," he murmurs.

"Even the things you don't want?" Steve says painfully.

"Even the things I...I'm not sure of," Orpheus answers.

Steve nods and kisses his wrist.

Orpheus watches him, gaze tender.

Steve presses Orpheus's hand to his face.

"Do you ever think about our future?" he says quietly. "Or do you just take it one day at a time?"

Orpheus strokes his thumb over Steve's brow.

"Sometimes I do," he says quietly, thoughtful.

"What to you think?" Steve whispers. "What do you imagine, when you imagine us?"

[golden_lyre]

"I don't know," he whispers. "I...I think about the things you want. I...I wonder what that would look like sometimes."

"Beautiful and messy," Steve says softly, "and perfectly imperfect."

[golden_lyre]

He smiles sweetly. "I suppose it would have to be."

Steve says, soft and quick, "I want a boy and a girl," and then bites his lip.

Orpheus blinks rapidly, surprised.

"I..."

He trails off, at a loss for words.

"Oh."

Steve moves onto his back and squeezes his eyes shut.

"Someday," he says quietly.

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus moves with him, tentatively resting his hand on Steve's chest and whispering, "We...we have time."

"I know," Steve says and smiles at him, though it's a bit tight.

Orpheus looks at him a moment, brows furrowed, a pained expression on his face, and then shifts onto his back.

"I'm sorry," he whispers.

"Honey," Steve says, "Orpheus," and he draws Orpheus to him and kisses him.

"I am with you," he whispers, "no matter what."
