OOM: Orpheus

Steve keeps his arm around Orpheus until they're well into the apartment. "Keep me company in the kitchen?" he says, sliding his fingers just above the waistband of Orpheus's jeans.

"Maybe?" Steve says. "Or anybody else who wouldn't make the demands on you that I do."

"Steve..."

Orpheus crosses to him, taking Steve's face in both hands. "If I wanted to be with someone else, I would be. I'm not here because you've...trapped me or because I feel obligated, or any other reason you might have concocted."

Steve looks at him with full eyes, and then kisses him, hard.

"I can concoct some doozies," he says in a choked sort of voice, and wraps his arms tight around Orpheus.

"Sorry. I'm sorry."

"Yeah, I can tell," Orpheus says with a dry laugh, arms curling around Steve.

"It's lot easier to deal with the fact that you've had other lovers when I don't know who any of them are."

"I'm sorry," Orpheus murmurs into his hair. "I shouldn't have said anything."

"No, no, it's my hang-up, it's nothing you did. I'll deal with it."

He kisses Orpheus's neck. "Did you get enough to eat? Wanna take the bottle and make out on the couch?"

"I have all manner of hang-ups that you deal with. Let me deal with this," he says, kissing Steve's temple.

"Let's go."

Steve keeps an arm around Orpheus as he grabs the bottle, and tugs Orpheus to the sofa.

He has a swig of wine straight from the bottle, which is still in his mouth when he kisses Orpheus.

Orpheus laughs softly into the kiss, sucking the wine from his mouth. "You know, sometimes I think you don't even like alcohol."

"There's not much reason to drink it when you can't get drunk," Steve points out. "But wine tastes okay." He licks Orpheus's lip to catch any stray drops.

Orpheus settles against him, hand curling around the back of Steve's neck.

"What did you mean before? About 'the rest of it'? What do you think the rest of it is?"

Steve rests his mouth against Orpheus's neck a moment.

"Living with me. Living here."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus lets his fingers rub over Steve's neck. "It...isn't my ideal living situation, but I would rather be here with you than in my world alone."

"But that's the problem, isn't it?" Steve says, pushing up on an elbow to look into his eyes. "If you're not happen here -- or even contented here -- then I feel like I'm failing you."

"I didn't say I wasn't contented, lovely," he answers, fingers carding through Steve's hair. "This is what I meant. You have to give me the freedom to be sometimes unhappy. Not always, but sometimes."

Steve lies his forehead on Orpheus's chest with a sigh.

"And I hate it when you are because I can't do anything about it."

"You can't," he agrees, rubbing his hand over Steve's back. "But you can be with me through it and still there when it's over."

"So I'm not failing you?" Steve whispers. "I'm not a bad boyfriend?"

"No. Gods, no," Orpheus murmurs, pressing a kiss to his hair. "My happiness is not solely dependent on you, and it shouldn't be."

Steve exhales, then kisses him, holding Orpheus's face and stroking his cheek with his thumb.

"Okay," he whispers, resting their foreheads together.

"Tell me what I can do for you right now. Name it and I'll do it."

Orpheus lets his eyes close, leaning into Steve's hand. "Kiss me."

Steve kisses him, slow, tender and sweet.

Orpheus hums softly into the kiss, shifting to climb into his lap. "And hold me," he murmurs.

Steve smiles faintly and holds Orpheus around his waist, and then kisses him again.
