OOM: Orpheus

Steve does not hustle Orpheus upstairs.

This is not to say he doesn't have plans. The way his hand lingers on the small of Orpheus's back is practically suggestive.

"I can't promise something like that," Orpheus says.

Steve sighs and nods. "Like I said. Doomed." He lets Orpheus go to duck his head under the shower spray.

Orpheus frowns and moves to step out of the shower, picking up a towel as he does to dry off.

Steve washes his hair quickly and turns the water off. He opens the shower and watches Orpheus.

"I know you warned me from the beginning," he says. "I suppose all that extra time I've had to think about it makes me wish things were different."

"You're the one saying it's doomed," Orpheus says quietly.

"Because you're imposing a time limit."

"Not a time limit," Orpheus says. "I haven't said it'll be over in a year or five or twenty."

"But you do think about it ending." Steve crosses his arms over his chest, hands under his arms. "Instead of enjoying the now."

Orpheus looks at him a moment before responding.

"I'm enjoying the now. But...Steve, if we were together seventy years, it'd be a lifetime for you. It'd be a...holiday for me."

"What if it isn't?" Steve whispers and swallows hard. "My body is constantly healing itself, rebuilding itself. That's why I burn so hot, why I'm hungry so often. I may not age. I may not even die.

"Do you really think you'd still want me in a hundred years, or are you always ready to say goodbye?"

"I have to be ready. I never know when I'll have to," Orpheus answers softly.

"But I...don't see myself not wanting you any time soon."

Steve stalks across the room, backing Orpheus against the nearest wall. "I don't see myself not wanting you any time soon, either. Lucky for you, I'm an optimist."

He kisses Orpheus fiercely.

Orpheus groans into the kiss, arms wrapping around Steve, keeping him close.

Steve clutches at him, like he can't decide where to touch him first or hold him tightest.

Orpheus breaks the kiss the pant for breath. "Steve..." he whispers, pressing himself tight against Steve.

Steve strokes his hair. "Yeah?" he says in a rumble.

"What was it you wanted?" he murmurs. "Before."

Steve smiles and dips his head to whisper in Orpheus's ear, "Standing up. Your legs wrapped around my waist. Me fucking you so hard the walls shake."

Orpheus groans, burying his face in Steve's neck. "Gods, yes."

Steve lifts him easily and kisses his cheek. "Need lube." He fumbles for the door knob.

Orpheus wraps his legs around Steve's waist, his arms around Steve's shoulders.

Steve chuckles roughly and carries him to the bed to find the little bottle. He uncaps it one-handed.

Orpheus kisses him roughly, one hand tangling in his hair.

Steve kisses him back as he pushes slick fingers inside Orpheus's body.

Orpheus shivers, fingers digging into Steve's skin where he grips him.
