[OOM: Orpheus]

In the past twelve hours, Steve has been dressed for exactly two of them. he and Orpheus have slept, lounged, talked, necked (and more, wink wink), ate and slept some more. He's listened to Orpheus hum and even sing a little, and he's watched Orpheus sleep and stroked his hair, and felt equally happy doing both.

This has been one of the ... best days of Steve's life.

"Yeah, they're not bad," Orpheus concedes.

He pulls up the home screen on his phone again and opens the email.

"This is what people do instead of sending letters, now."

Steve squints at it. "Hm. It seems impersonal."

"Fairly, yes," Orpheus agrees. "But it's fast."

"I suppose that has its advantages. Better than waiting weeks to hear if your loved one is all right or not.

"Show me how it takes pictures?"

[golden_lyre]

"Okay, I'll try."

He hasn't ever used the camera before, and it actually takes him a few tries to get to the right function.

And then he accidentally takes a picture of his thumb.

And then flips the screen so that it shows his face as he looks into it. (He takes that opportunity to snap a picture of him and Steve, as though he'd meant to do that. But then he can't work out how to flip it back again.)

Steve, valiantly, does not laugh.

Much.

"You figure it out then, genius," Orpheus grumbles, poutily passing the phone back to him.

Steve chuckles and takes it, and takes a picture of himself a few times before he figures out how to get it facing the right way.

"I think I've got it. Hold still, I'm going to get that picture of your back."

He kneels over Orpheus and starts trying to fit the entire watercolor into the camera's tiny frame.

Orpheus does his best to keep still, but he does end up squirming a little.

"Orpheus," Steve scolds him gently and puts a hand on his hip.

"Sorry," Orpheus murmurs, appropriately chastised.

The camera clicks a few more times, until Steve is satisfied he has some pictures that contain the entire watercolor and aren't blurry, and then lies beside Orpheus and holds the camera so they both can see them.

"There it is. My America."

Orpheus leans against him to see the pictures. "It's beautiful, lovely," he murmurs.

Steve kisses his cheek.

"Mr. Urquhart commissioned me to paint his castle. Did I tell you that?"

"You didn't," Orpheus says, smiling at the kiss. "He's paying you for it?"

"Yeah, a hundred dollars. That's a whole week's wages at Timely."

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus arches an eyebrow. "That will be quite a bargain in a few decades."

"Really? Hm." He scrolls through the pictures, smiling at how easy it is to see how they turned out--so much better than waiting until they're developed. "The sketches are coming together nicely, anyway. I have to snatch a few minutes here and a few minutes there.

"I just hope he doesn't think I'm some famous artist and the picture will be worth a lot someday."

"I doubt he cares," Orpheus says honestly. "It won't do him any good here."

"That's true."

He studies the camera, its tiny buttons and wee outlets. "Where do the photos come from?"

[golden_lyre]

Orpheus shrugs. "It's digital."

Which is as good as saying he has no idea.

"Can't we print them somehow? I'd like to have a paper copy to refer to if I'm going to paint this again."

[golden_lyre]

"Yeah, we can," Orpheus says, though he's not exactly sure how.

"I'll have to ask some people."

"Thank you."

Steve puts the phone aside and brushes Orpheus's hair back from his face. "You can move now. It should be dry, and even if it's not we've got the pictures.

"You make a beautiful canvas."

Orpheus smiles, turning onto his side to look at Steve.

"You did beautiful things with it."
