[AU / other voices] intermezzo

Some days are quieter than others. He's learned to appreciate peace when it comes, rare as it has been in his life.

Evening finds him settled in an armchair near the fireplace, one with a good view of the room. An entire pot of coffee stands on the low table beside him on a warming plate, next to his gently-steaming mug. Occasionally, he remembers to take a sip.

To all outward appearances, Bucky's lost in the depths of the book he has balanced on his knee. Metal gleams whenever he turns a page. 

Appearances can be deceiving, but they're useful.
