Orpheus lets his fingers card through Steve's hair and presses his lips to Steve's forehead, humming into his skin.

Steve breathes more slowly, his eyes closing as Orpheus's song fills his heart and soothes his soul.

Orpheus keeps up both the song and the gentle stroking through Steve's hair until he's certain Steve is asleep.

When he dreams, it's no longer of the cold and dark. It's music and warmth and sunshine.


And if a shadow lurks there, well. It's only a shadow.
